Hot summer night reviews MUNICIPAL WASTE, THE HAVERBROOK DISASTER vs DEMORALISER, ALEX SAUER

MUNICIPAL WASTE "The Fatal Feast" (CD)

Richmond, Virginia thrash mongers MUNICIPAL WASTE moved from a revivalist thrash party project to become the measure to which the new breed of modern crossover-tharshers must confront with.
After signing to Nuclear Blast records the foursome released earlier this year their fifth studio album entitled "THE FATAL FEAST" that follows-up to two highly raved records like "The Art Of Partying" (2007) and "Massive Aggressive" (2009).
Starting from the impressive cover artwork a la Ed Repka (by Justin Osbourn of Slasher Design) to the "Waste In Space" intro by Zombie's Steve Moore to the lyrics the guys this time around penned kinda outer-space theme that wraps the whole new offering.

Musically what we get here is 100% Municipal Waste. I mean the formula is the same, a blend of crossover thrash metal played in the 80's by the likes of Nuclear Assault, DRI, Anthrax, SOD, Suicidal Tendencies. And the sound/songwriting is a further notch up.
The title track sees again the spacey synthesizer and a guest appearance by NA's man John Connelly.
Ah!...there's "Authority Complex" where you hear some harmonized guitars a la Iron Maiden.
If you liked what Municipal Waste released before this, you like the modern thrashers SSD, Toxic Holocaust, Gama Bomb you'll definitely dig this record. I really really did. The promo-download of "THE FATAL FEAST" kept playing on my PC for a long time in the recent moths. But if you haven't listened to crossover-thrash milestones like Nuclear Assault's "Game Over" and Handle With Care", Anthrax "Among The Living", DRI "Dealing With It", SOD's "Speak English Or Die" and Suicidal Tendencies "Join The Army" do yourself a favour and go and check them out immediately. Okay?

THE HAVERBROOK DISASTER vs DEMORALISER (split MCD/Digital)

A classic band against band split format is what this release (out on Let It Burn records as MCD and digitally through their subsidiary Acuity music) offers. And who's gonna win this clash?
Well, let me say it's really a tough one to say who since both the bands play their own shit with passion and a great deal of musicianship.
Definitely THE HAVERBROOK DISASTER is the most known name here having the guys from Munich formed an year earlier than their rivals from Grimsby & Hull (UK) DEMORALISER and released a full-length work “HOPEWARD BOUND” last year.
Musically we have at one corner (with the task to open up) the modern melodic hardcore a la Comeback Kid, The Ghost Inside played by The Haverbrook Disaster and at the opposite one a slab of beafy heavy as concrete metalcore in the vein of the likes of Bury Your Dead, Born From Pain played by Demoraliser.
The Haverbrook Disaster consolidate much on their sound jam packed of heaviness, breakdowns and more catchy melodic hooks. “Selfishness Is The New Black” is really a burner with its NYC street-gang undertones and a memorable melodic chorus that will make you love this song since listen one.
The two tracks that Demoraliser offer here as a follow-up to their 2011's EP “Conveyance” are chuggish and level everything that crosses their path. A good appetizer for their debut full-length “A Living Nightmare” to be released shortly -the single “Early Years" can now be downloaded for free at band's website.
Both these Euro hardcore realities promise much, they only need your support.

ALEX SAUER "Inside Out" (digital)

I'm pretty sure I said this more than once but, again, despite being myself a guitar player and the fact that from time to time put my Les Paul down to play my father's old acoustic guitar, I'm not much of fan of voice/acoustic guitar based records. I've got to review more than a few: Joy Cape, Tony Sly and some others actually slipped on the back of my mind but I can't give an opinion but say cool, a bunch of good melodies and nice chords (and usually heartfelt lyrics)!
So what to say about INSIDE OUT? Well, I'm gonna give you only the basic details:
this is the debut EP by HIS STATUES FALL's singer ALEX SAUER,
it packs three tracks, “I'm Back”, “All That I have” and “Memoria”
is out digitally through Acuity Music

I'm convinced those into acoustic stuff will make their mind up themselves without me spilling some bullshits.
